A NATO for nature? The other day we came across this interesting thought-experiment by Mathis Wackernagel and Peter Raven. A simple but brilliant idea. 🚧 The Problem: Despite international conventions and countless hopeful speeches ... The ecological overshoot is still growing. ⛔ An ever-recurring argument for inaction is: „Why should we pay for ecosystem protection when other countries do not take action?“ The Truth: The crisis is global and no country can mitigate and adapt to environmental challenges alone. 💭 Their Opinion: „Sovereignty and resilience are best protected not through moral appeals to serve the common good, but by preparing proactively for such a future and OFFERING MUTUAL ASSURANCE.“ 💡 Their Solution: A NATO for Nature or a Biocapacity Bloc shifting the paradigm towards “participating in efforts to reduce ecological threats must lead to greater protection at a lower cost.” 🤝 At ESMERALDA SAS we share their vision. The successful protection of life-supporting systems and the adaptation to unstoppable changes will only be bearable at international and not national level. We’re not saying existing international bodies have failed and should be replaced but perhaps rethinking the paradigm could improve results. What do you think?
