Each month, we spotlight the momentum behind Australia’s shift to clean energy. Here’s a roundup of what caught our attention in May 👇 🔹NSW has launched two new renewable energy and storage tenders seeking 2.5 GW of renewable generation and 12 GWh of long-duration storage to support the state’s clean energy pipeline. 🔹Australia’s largest solar and battery hybrid projects have reached financial close, together comprising 720 MW of solar generation and 600 MW / 2,400 MWh of battery storage. 🔹Australia has surpassed 400,000 home battery installations under the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, reaching 11.2 GWh of cumulative storage capacity in less than a year. 🔹Global energy storage has officially entered the “100 GW era”, with BloombergNEF reporting 112 GW of energy storage was installed globally in 2025, marking a 48% increase on 2024. 🔹NSW Roadmap Tender 7 projects will deliver 2.1 GWh of firming capacity, including large-scale battery storage and a virtual power plant to support system reliability. 🔹Batteries are continuing to help ease pressure on power prices by shifting low-cost solar into evening peaks and reducing reliance on expensive gas generation.
