Unpacking NSW’s storage gap NSW is building momentum in storage but the task is evolving as the energy system changes. As more solar comes online and demand increases, the role of storage becomes even more critical. Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)’s 2026 Integrated System Plan points to around 53 GWh of utility-scale storage needed in NSW by 2030. Today, 2.6 GWh is operational, with a further 10 GWh under construction - leaving a 40 GWh gap still to be delivered. As coal-fired generation retires, storage and firming will play a central role in maintaining reliability while meeting growing demand. The focus now is on delivery, progressing projects through approvals, connection, procurement and financing at pace. The Energy Security Corporation invests in large-scale storage that helps to support the next phase of NSW’s energy transformation. Find out more: https://www.escorp.com.au/ #ESC #NSW #StorageGap
