What is a “Milk Run”? Producing advanced medical diagnostic systems requires a highly efficient and reliable supply chain. To explain how we optimize our transport operations, our Chief Operations Officer, Domenico Fazio, shares our approach: “The Milk Run is a logistics model in which a single vehicle follows a predefined route, handling multiple deliveries and pickups in one continuous loop. By applying this principle, we selected suppliers within a 100 km radius of our Genoa and Florence hubs. This allows us to share transportation capacity across multiple partners and maximize the load factor of each trip.” The term originates from traditional milk delivery routes, dropping off full bottles while collecting empty ones along the way. Today, this simple concept has evolved into a rigorous operational framework.
