⚡Energy security is no longer a distant concern, it is at the heart of Europe’s future. At the 14th Annual Energy Conference, held at Esade Madrid and organised by EsadeGeo together with the European Commission Representation in Spain, leading voices came together to reflect on a rapidly shifting global landscape marked by geopolitical tension and uncertainty. “Even if the Strait of Hormuz were to reopen this afternoon, it would take more than a couple of years to recover gas production.” With this stark warning, Dan Jørgensen, EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, set the tone for a conversation with Angel Saz-Carranza, Director of EsadeGeo, focused on resilience, diversification and long-term strategy. Jørgensen also stressed that “there is no real security without energy security” and reaffirmed that Europe “should never again import even a single molecule (of energy) from Russia.” The discussion highlighted both the progress made since 2022 and the structural challenges ahead, particularly around competitiveness and energy costs. The conference also featured contributions from Nikolaos Isaris, Deputy Director of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, and closing remarks by Javier Solana, President of EsadeGeo. Together, speakers underlined the urgency of strengthening interconnection, accelerating the energy transition and reinforcing Europe’s strategic autonomy in an increasingly complex global context.
