🚨 Epidemic Watch | Ebola outbreak expands in eastern DRC The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola continues to spread in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 1,561 confirmed cases and 506 deaths reported as of 4 July 2026. More than 10,000 contacts are currently under follow-up. While treatment centres are under severe pressure and the humanitarian situation is complicated by ongoing conflict, important progress has been made: 🧪 Testing capacity has increased dramatically, from 30 to over 2,000 tests per day, thanks to decentralized laboratories. 💉 A WHO-supported clinical trial has begun to evaluate two promising therapies (MBP134 and remdesivir) against the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, for which no approved treatment currently exists.
