🦇 Wildlife surveillance | Marburg virus Camera traps at Python Cave (Uganda), a known Marburg virus hotspot, recorded 10 animal species preying on or scavenging bats, offering rare insight into potential wildlife transmission pathways. Researchers also observed 200+ visitors approaching the cave despite health warnings, highlighting ongoing risks of human exposure. "“It is certainly the first in such a well-documented form,” says Gábor Kemenesi, a field virologist at the University of Pécs in Hungary, who was not involved in the study." The study underscores the importance of wildlife surveillance, One Health, and public awareness in preventing zoonotic spillover. https://lnkd.in/dSrS6urs #OneHealth #Marburg #Zoonoses #WildlifeSurveillance #Preparedness #ERINHA
