We often think that unplugging a computer from the internet and keeping it in a secure room makes it completely impenetrable to remote attacks. But in the world of cybersecurity, physical isolation is not absolute. This was famously demonstrated by Dr. Mordechai Guri and his team of researchers. Through projects like Fansmitter and DiskFiltration, they proved that data can be exfiltrated from air-gapped systems using CPU fan speeds, hard drive actuator noises, and even high-frequency acoustic signals that are completely inaudible to the human ear. WhisperGate modulates digital text messages into high-frequency sound waves (18 kHz - 19 kHz) and plays them over a regular speaker. On the other end, another device uses its microphone to capture the audio, run it through Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms (like Goertzel filters), and demodulate the waves back into readable text in real-time. This is the magic. 💡 The Goal WhisperGate is designed purely as an educational tool and a Proof of Concept (PoC). It serves to demystify how acoustic modems operate and visualizes how data can seamlessly travel across physical, non-networked boundaries using everyday hardware. 👉 GitHub Repository: https://lnkd.in/dHrrwa4Z Disclaimer: This project is currently in an alpha stage and is intended for demonstration and testing purposes only. Due to differences in hardware, audio devices, operating systems, microphone quality, and noise filtering technologies, some computers may not produce certain frequencies correctly, while others may not detect them at all. Results may vary significantly between devices and environments. We do not guarantee consistent functionality, accuracy, or compatibility across all systems. This project is provided as-is for demonstration purposes only. #Cybersecurity #SignalProcessing #Golang #SoftwareEngineering #AICoding #AirGap #AcousticModem #InformationSecurity #OpenSource
