Vidar works as an exploration geologist for the Johan Castberg field in Harstad. His day-to-day work is about interpreting seismic data, analysing geology and searching for opportunities hidden beneath the seabed. What motivates him most is the combination of technology, collaboration and understanding something no one has fully seen before. Small details in the data can lead to major discoveries, and the work requires both curiosity and patience. For Vidar, life in the north is also about the balance outside work. Nature is close by, and the contrasts between working days and time off are an important reason why he wanted to stay in Northern Norway. “A lot of exciting things are happening in the north right now, and I hope the next 50 years bring even more activity, technology and development here.” Through this year's Arctic Race of Norway, we mark 50 years of activity in the north — and the people building it further.
