A major step forward for the protection of children in Europe.     The final negotiations have concluded, and a new EU Directive on combating child sexual abuse, exploitation, and child sexual abuse material has been agreed.     The new rules will:  • Establish EU-wide rules and penalties for these crimes  • Address abuse committed offline, online, and through emerging technologies, including AI  • Strengthen prevention measures  • Enhance protection and support for victims     Importantly, the Directive reflects some of the highest standards in Europe for combating child sexual abuse, including new forms of abuse facilitated by digital technologies.     Throughout the negotiations, the EPP Group secured its key priorities despite strong initial opposition from the Council on many of these issues. This positive outcome helps place the protection of children at the centre of EU action.    Protecting children must remain one of Europe's highest priorities.
