UNITED HEAT breaks ground - the next step in cross-border energy collaboration 🚧🌍 A modern energy infrastructure is being built that not only supplies a region but also connects two cities and two countries, while strongly focusing on energy security. 👉 Poland and Germany are demonstrating that solidarity and cooperation are the most effective responses to external risks. 💡 After six years of planning and collaboration, today marks a historic milestone for the Town of europe Görlitz/Zgorzelec: the groundbreaking of the UNITED HEAT project. With the ceremonial first spade in place, Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna Sp. z o.o./ SEC Zgorzelec a subsidiary E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions, and Stadtwerke Görlitz Aktiengesellschaft, part of Veolia | Deutschland, officially kick off the construction of the cross-border, climate-friendly district heating network. UNITED HEAT isn’t just infrastructure; it’s a symbol of what European cross-border cooperation can achieve. By 2030, the project will fully transition the two cities’ heat supply to renewable energy sources: 🔷 solar thermal, 🔷 lake and wastewater heat recovery, 🔷 biomass, and 🔷 power-to-heat systems. This will reduce CO₂ emissions by around 50,000 tons per year and increase secure, sustainable heat supply for households on both sides of the Neisse. 👏 High-level support underscores its significance: German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche, Undersecretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Energy Konrad Wojnarowski, and Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer joined the celebration, highlighting UNITED HEAT as a European flagship for sustainable urban energy. As Marten Bunnemann, CEO of E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions said: " The ceremonial groundbreaking marking today’s start of construction is a strong signal of cooperation that goes beyond companies and even national borders. UNITED HEAT is more than another step toward modern heating infrastructure. It is a joint project that, especially in times of global uncertainty, reflects strong European unity " With 12 kilometers of pipeline connecting two cities, two countries, and two district heating networks, the project now moves from vision to reality and we’re proud to be part of this transformative journey. 🤝⚡ #UnitedHeat #PoweringProgress #EnergyTransition #DistrictHeating #CrossBorderCollaboration #Decarbonization #Sustainability
