🌍 A flagship example of European energy cooperation: Letter of intent signed for cross boarder project United Heat  When it comes to decarbonising Europe’s heating systems, borders shouldn’t be barriers they should be bridges. With United Heat two cities once divided are now united by building the carbon-free district heating of tomorrow. On December 2, Representatives from Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna Sp. z o.o. Zgorzelec, Stadtwerke Görlitz Aktiengesellschaft, E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS), and Veolia Germany signed a letter of intent to establish a joint project company to operate a cross-border district heating network that will save up to 50,000 tons of CO₂ per year starting in 2030. The agreement forms the core of the EU-funded project, endorsed by both cities’ mayors, marks an important milestone in the EU-funded project United Heat.  🔸 Investment volume: up to €195 million  🔸 Planned connection: 12 km district heating link, including a 3.8 km cross-border pipeline  🔸 Funding secured: €38 million from the EU + €81.6 million from BAFA (Germany) United Heat will supply climate-neutral heat generated from:  ✔️ Solar thermal with seasonal storage  ✔️ Lake and wastewater heat recovery  ✔️ Biomass boilers  ✔️ Waste heat and power-to-heat systems  These technologies will be intelligently combined to ensure a stable, renewable, and year-round heat supply for both cities. 👉Marten Bunnemann, CEO of E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions, emphasizes:  “United Heat shows how strong European cooperation leads to groundbreaking, cross-border solutions. This project sets new standards for customer-oriented, CO₂-reduced energy supply and will become a European flagship for many more initiatives.” The partners have been working together for over five years, the joint venture will now accelerate development, construction, and future operation, pending antitrust approvals.
