In 2024, Amazon wildfires destroyed a record 6.7 million hectares of tropical forest—and extreme fire seasons could become 57% more frequent by the end of this century. In response, the Wildfire Action Accelerator, led by EDF and allies including BirdLife International and the Global Wildfire Collective, together with Ecuador's Ministry of Environment, convened a landmark workshop in Quito, Ecuador—bringing together governments, Indigenous leaders and scientists to assess progress on the Wildfire Action Accelerator Pledge made at COP30.
