As record-high gold prices fuel the rapid expansion of illegal mining across the Amazon, Indigenous territories and communities are paying the price. During London Climate Action Week, EDF, Queen Mary University of London, Cornell University and Fundación EcoCiencia brought together Indigenous leaders, scientists and researchers to highlight the growing threats to health, food security, safety and biodiversity—and the urgent need for collective action. Protecting the Amazon requires centering Indigenous voices and building stronger partnerships between communities, science, and policy.
