James Dacombe started his first company at 18. Backing a teenager building a brain-computer interface medical device felt like a high-risk bet at the time. But then we saw the velocity, the determination, the speed of learning and his ability to get a product into hospitals in the US while still basically a teenager. Today, James is 25 and building again. His new company, OLIX, has raised $220M to build a new kind of AI chip using photonics instead of traditional GPU architecture. James is a great example of something we believe deeply at EF: The best way to learn how to be a founder is to be a founder.
