Every company has an origin story. Ours begins in a garage in Ehningen, near Böblingen in Germany. In the 1960s, high-temperature resistant polymers were starting to emerge in Europe and North America. The materials were promising, but the processing methods were still far from mature. After several years gaining technical and management experience in industry, Wilfried Ensinger saw a clear opportunity: to develop new extrusion methods using equipment he designed and constructed himself. So, in 1966, he started his own business. And the conditions were as hands-on as it gets: the garage was barely long enough to extrude fibre-reinforced plastics on the two home-made facilities. Before an extruded strand even reached the other side of the road, it was sawn off with a hand saw. That mix of engineering curiosity, pragmatism, and close collaboration shaped Ensinger from the very beginning, working side by side with raw material manufacturers and the people using plastics in real applications. Six decades later, Ensinger has grown into an international group with more than 30 production sites and sales offices. With over 2,500 employees, we generated turnover of more than half a billion euros in the last financial year. This is the first post in our monthly Ensinger Throwback series marking our 60th anniversary year. Next month: the next chapter in our journey. #Ensinger60
