For nearly 100 years, Lithgow has helped keep the lights on in New South Wales. That role isn’t disappearing, it’s evolving. As Australia’s energy system changes, existing sites like Mt Piper can continue playing an important role. The proposed Mt Piper Battery Energy Storage System would help store electricity when supply is high and deliver it back to the grid when demand increases. Its first stage would be capable of dispatching up to 250MW for up to four hours, using existing infrastructure already connected to the grid. That means avoiding major new transmission works and helping reduce impacts on the local community. Watch the animation to see how the proposed project would work.
