Hidromod, part of ABL, has been awarded a hydrodynamic study for the expansion of Douro Marina, supporting both the Preliminary Study and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project. Drawing on its recognised expertise in hydrodynamic and environmental modelling, Hidromod will evaluate the performance of proposed marina layouts under a range of conditions, from typical operating scenarios to extreme events, helping inform sustainable and technically robust design decisions. The work will utilise the MOHID modelling system, co-developed by Hidromod and widely applied across Portugal's rivers, estuaries and coastal environments. The study will also assess sediment transport and siltation patterns to support long-term operational and maintenance planning. Commenting on the project, José Chambel Leitão, Managing Director of Hidromod, said: 🗣️💬 "This study brings together advanced modelling capabilities and deep local knowledge of the Douro estuary. By analysing both hydrodynamic behaviour and sediment processes, we are supporting a design that is not only technically robust, but also sustainable over the long term." This award reflects the strength of ABL's specialist environmental and engineering capabilities, supporting ports & harbours clients in delivering sustainable coastal and maritime infrastructure projects worldwide.
