How curiosity became cutting-edge technology ⚡ Sometimes, innovation starts with curiosity, persistence – and a few unexpected incidents along the way. More than 30 years ago, two Aalborg University students decided to revive an old laser that had been sitting unused in their supervisor’s office. Their experiments eventually led to a laser powerful enough to make a brick glow… and accidentally burn a hole through a sweater. Today, those early experiments have evolved into something much bigger. AAU alumnus Jens William Larsen is now founder and CEO of Polyteknik AS, a company developing advanced coating technologies and machinery for industries such as electronics, healthcare and semiconductor manufacturing. It is a powerful example of how student-driven innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and long-term university-industry partnerships can create global impact and highly specialised jobs.
