JOINT LETTER | EnergyTag is proud to stand alongside 26 global climate NGOs urging the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to follow the science and resist corporate pressure. Right now, a tech giant can power its data centers using a fossil-heavy local grid, buy clean energy certificates from a continent away, and still claim to be "100% clean." This loophole undermines real climate progress. True grid decarbonization requires three unbending pillars: ⚡ Hourly tracking ⚡ Local grid boundaries ⚡ New clean energy investment We are urging SBTi to require new, hourly, and locationally matched clean power. This change is the only way to deliver: ▪️Direct impact by driving corporate dollars into actual clean energy infrastructure. ▪️Clarity for investors around actual climate risks. ▪️Transparency for policymakers and the public. ▪️ Accurate data for which can then drive real change If SBTi abandons its robust, science-backed approach and bows to corporate lobbying, it risks taking a permanent step toward irrelevancy. Without real accountability, it becomes an unscientific target-setting body lacking credibility—essentially providing an empty rubber stamp for corporate greenwashing.
