🌍 Seminar: Towards a new political economy of electricity decarbonisation: lessons from the UK experience Join us next Tuesday, 14 April for an insightful seminar featuring Dr Donal Brown (University of Oxford Environmental Change Institute), who will examine the UK’s widely influential approach to power sector reform and decarbonisation. The UK has long been seen as a global pioneer—privatising its electricity system and, more recently, rapidly scaling renewable energy to meet over 50% of its power needs. In this talk, Dr Brown will explore: ⚡ The limitations of the current “British model” ⚡ Why reliance on wholesale markets and private investment may be driving higher costs ⚡ The emerging legitimacy challenges in the UK’s energy transition ⚡ Alternative approaches centred on public ownership, social provision, and price discipline Drawing on his research in energy policy and political economy, Dr Brown will offer a thought-provoking perspective on how electricity systems can be restructured to deliver affordable, secure, and socially legitimate decarbonisation. 📍 Location: National University of Singapore, Energy Studies Institute, Conference Room, 29 Heng Mui Keng Terrace, Block A, #10-01, Singapore 119620 📅 Date: Tuesday, 14 April 2026, 10:30am Register here: https://lnkd.in/gsDENBkK We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a timely and engaging discussion.
