Did you know? The EU has cut its reliance on Russian gas from 40% in 2021 to just 6% in 2025, supported by new legislation. But the picture is more complex. In 2025, the United States became the EU's largest supplier of liquefied gas, providing nearly 58% of imports, with volumes tripling since 2021. Europe has moved away from Russian gas, but it remains heavily dependent on another external supplier. Overreliance on US gas also goes against the EU's plan to enhance energy security through diversification, demand reduction, and more affordable energy.
