Because Wind Can Do More: ENERCON Delivers First Wind+ Storage Projects in Germany Generating wind energy remains at the heart of what we do. Increasingly, however, the key question is how to make that energy available in a flexible, economically viable and grid-friendly way – particularly in a market environment characterised by increasingly volatile electricity prices and even negative price periods resulting from high levels of renewable generation. This is precisely where our first Wind+ Storage projects in Germany come into play. Together with Planungsbüro Düser GmbH, we are combining ENERCON wind turbines with battery energy storage systems and intelligent hybrid control technology. In Möhnesee-Westrich, renewable energy generated by the wind farm will be stored temporarily in a battery system. In Soest-Meiningsen, where wind and solar generation are co-located, the storage system is designed for both grid- and market-oriented applications. Both projects demonstrate how energy storage can unlock new opportunities for flexibility, ancillary services and optimised revenue generation. “The next phase of the energy transition will not be measured solely by how much renewable energy we generate, but by how intelligently, flexibly and profitably we integrate it into the energy system. The combination of wind turbines, battery storage and intelligent control is a key building block in achieving this. It creates new opportunities for our customers to make their projects more resilient, economically attractive and future-proof over the long term.
