One week in at Legal & General and it feels like a good moment to pause and reflect. A few people have asked why L&G. The honest answer isn’t about a role or a move. It’s about what this organisation is here to do. I grew up in Wales, where you’re taught to look out for other people and think beyond yourself. Those values have stayed with me, and they shape how I think about leadership, responsibility, and the kind of impact work should have and I want to have personally. After my first week of listening and learning, L&G’s purpose - investing for the long term, because our futures depend on it - already feels very real. It shows up in conversations, decisions, and the care people take, because the work affects real lives: pensions and the long-term financial security of individuals and their families. That kind of long-term thinking matters. And so does how you go about it. I’ve been struck by the thoughtfulness, commitment and quiet ambition of the people I’ve met so far, a place that takes people and performance equally seriously, and expects leaders to deliver both. Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time this past week. I’m excited about what’s ahead and grateful to be learning alongside such a thoughtful group of people. The L&G umbrella was particularly appreciated given the never ending rain too! ☺️☔️
