When we talk about academic freedom, it often brings to mind the big challenges. But responsibility shows up in day‑to‑day ways. Our 2025 Responsible Publishing report sets out how responsibility shows up in practice, from the standards we hold ourselves to, to the partnerships and decisions that shape how research is supported and shared. An example of this is our support of #DefendResearch. We backed our public stance on academic freedom with practical steps, including a publisher's note across our journals, as well as building resources and webinars with partners to help our communities. For us, supporting academic freedom means being clear about where we stand, and how we act when research is challenged. As Terri Teleen, President for the Americas at Emerald puts it: "Academic freedom is the foundation of progress. When censorship creeps into research, it silences voices, stifles innovation, and undermines trust in knowledge. Defending research means defending truth, equity, and the ability of scholars to tackle society’s most urgent challenges without fear. We owe it to future generations to keep inquiry open and ideas flowing." Read the report here: https://bit.ly/4vUPEVj
