In this video, we demonstrate how hardened steering pinions are machined to final quality. The process corrects warping caused by hardening while achieving the required gear quality for stable operation in the steering system. The primary benefit for the customer lies in the combination of precision and cost-effectiveness: • Hard machining of the steering pinion tooth profiles on the K 160 • Cycle times under 30 seconds, depending on the number of teeth and workpiece geometry • Automated feeding with a gantry loader and double-rotation gripper • Reduced non-productive time due to reproducible workpiece orientation • Cost-effective alternative to gear generating grinding It is crucial that every component is reliably manufactured to the required quality—and with short cycle times.
