A new University of Plymouth study, published in One Earth, has confirmed what shorelines have been telling us for years: food and beverage plastics rank among the top three most abundant litter items in 93% of countries surveyed, with packaging, caps and bottles leading the way. The authors are clear that waste management alone cannot keep pace. Their call is for upstream action: reduction, better packaging design and stronger policy. At Elopak, our response is to reduce and rethink plastic use in packaging. Our cartons are built around renewable paperboard, with only thin polymer layers, and we are continuously working to further reduce that layer. Moreover, we have introduced circular and biocircular polymers to decrease reliance on virgin plastic. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/epWsABHi
