𝗣𝗣𝗪𝗥 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 From 12 August 2026, EU Regulation 2025/40 will apply directly to packaging placed on the European market — including pharmaceutical packaging. Many packaging and CMC teams are currently adapting their processes to the new regulatory structure. PPWR will increasingly shape how pharmaceutical packaging is designed, validated and introduced to the market. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁: • Recyclability based on Design for Recycling principles • Minimum recycled content targets for plastic packaging • Packaging minimisation with clear functional justification • Harmonised labelling and traceability requirements 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆: 1. Evaluate existing packaging portfolios against PPWR requirements. Primary, secondary, tertiary. 2. Integrate Design for Recycling decisions early in development 3. Create structured documentation for materials, functions and exemptions Early preparation creates flexibility, reduces future development effort and strengthens long-term product strategies. In Part 2, we’ll share how these requirements already influence engineering and production decisions at elmplastic. Which article keeps your team up?
