Incoming Fifth-Year Medical Student. Mentorship Director for Widening Participation Charity In2MedSchool.

Today I attended the Royal Society of Medicine Tomorrow’s Doctors Conference which had a spotlight on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), bringing medical and dental students together. My only prior exposure of OMFS was observing joint plastic surgery and maxillofacial cases (segmental mandibulectomies), which I found fascinating. This was therefore a great opportunity to learn more about the specialty. One of the highlights of the day was the facial plating workshop. It was very hands-on and unlike any surgical workshop I have taken part in before (and we got to take our skulls home!).
