On this day in 1909, the Slovenian electrician and chess player Milan Vidmar Jr. was born, the son of grandmaster dr. Milan Vidmar, a renowned expert in the field of electrical engineering, who, among other things, introduced electrical engineering as a founding study. In Ljubljana, he attended primary school, classical grammar school and studied electrical engineering. After graduating from the faculty, he first worked at Siemens in Berlin, then at TSŠ in Banja Luka. After that he returned to Ljubljana and worked at ELES (Elektrogospodarska skupnost Slovenije) and later on at the Institute of Electrical Engineering (now Elektroinšitut M. Vidmar).
