Today, we step back in time 100 years. The Model XI (Mod. XI) vacuum cleaner, introduced in 1926, represented the next step in a design that helped take Electrolux on to the global stage. It built on the success of the earlier Lux V, launched in 1921. By 1926, the Lux V had reportedly outsold all other vacuum cleaner brands worldwide (outside the United States), where domestic manufacturers dominated. Unlike the bulky, upright machines that had preceded it, the Lux V lay on its side on metal runners, making it lighter, easier to move and far more practical for everyday homes. It also came with a series of nozzles for different tasks - some ads even showed men grooming their horses with it. The Model XI brought further improvements, including stronger suction, a larger dust bag and a more practical design. It also expanded the range of interchangeable attachments, allowing one machine to handle multiple cleaning tasks - a notable innovation in the 1920s at a time when many vacuum cleaners were still single-purpose. The success of the Lux V and later models, like the XI, helped us reach households in markets around the world - laying the foundation for the global company that we are today. #Innovation #Design #History
