Ontario’s electricity system is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. Homes are becoming smarter. Transportation is electrifying. Industry is expanding. Data centres are multiplying. And extreme weather is testing the resilience of the grid in new ways. During National Electricity Month, we’re highlighting the ESA experts helping Ontario navigate this transformation — not by slowing progress down, but by making sure it moves forward with confidence. Because the energy transition can only be successful if it’s safe. Our work spans prevention, preparedness, innovation and response: ⚡ Using data to anticipate and reduce electrical harm before incidents occur ⚡ Enabling safe adoption of new and emerging technologies ⚡ Supporting large-scale infrastructure and economic growth ⚡ Responding when storms disrupt power and safety is most critical Here are some of the people leading that work every day: Patience Cathcart — Director of Data Science & Public Safety Officer — turns complex data into actionable insight, helping ESA focus its efforts where risk is highest and safety interventions matter most. Mike Paul — Senior Inspector, Mining Services Group — supports electrical safety in some of Ontario’s most demanding environments, protecting workers and critical infrastructure. Nansy Hanna — Senior Director, Engineering & Regulations — ensures electrical products and systems meet safety standards today while adapting frameworks for the technologies of tomorrow. Enzo Tramontozzi — Managing Director, eSAFE — leads thousands of evaluations each year that allow innovation to reach the market without compromising safety. Shawn Martel — General Manager — helps coordinate ESA’s response during severe weather, ensuring electrical systems can be restored safely when communities need it most. This National Electricity Month, we’re recognizing the people who help ensure Ontario’s electrified future is not only ambitious — but safe, resilient and reliable. #nationalelectricitymonth #electricalsafety
