I have been reading the poetry of Wali Dakni (1667–1707), a towering pioneer of classical Urdu verse from the late 17th and early 18th century. He did not merely write poetry—he helped give Urdu its literary soul. With astonishing elegance and clarity, he refined the ghazal into a disciplined yet deeply expressive art form. His verses carry simplicity that conceals depth, and beauty that lingers. Wali’s influence reshaped poetic taste in Delhi and laid the foundation of the Urdu literary tradition. خوب رو خوب کام کرتے ہیں ایک نگاہ میں غلام کرتے ہیں (ولی)
