Today, participants visited fields where the work of the past decade is bearing fruit: new resistant olive varieties, regenerated landscapes, and the practical reality of what science translates to on the ground. We were honoured by the presence of Helen Mirren, Oscar-winning actress and passionate ambassador for the charity Save the Olives, which is committed to safeguarding Apulia’s olive-growing heritage. Some of the sites visited today also received EU funding, a tangible example of how research investment becomes recovery on the ground. Three days of conference. One week that will shape how Europe responds to emerging plant health threats.
