Turning potatoes into fries might sound simple… until you try to plan experiments for it. Last week at ENBIS - European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics 2025 in Piraeus, @Robin Van der Haar presented joint work with Effex founders Peter Goos and @Bart De Ketelaere on how to make experiments faster, cheaper, and more insightful. Robin showed how optimally designed experiments are being applied in the Intelligent FRY project, a collaboration between KU Leuven Universiteit Gent and leading companies in the Belgian and Dutch potato industry. The designed experiments are applied at the VEG-i-TEC (UGent) pilot plant in Kortrijk. The ultimate goal of Robin's designed experiments is to make Belgian fries even better than they already are, but his work also has potential in chemical, energy, and pharmaceutical industries.
