First Round of Our Interdisciplinary Module "Digitale Fertigung" at BFH Architektur, Holz und Bau Successfully Completed! Over the course of the semester, 16 students from the fields of Architecture, Wood Technology, and Civil Engineering explored a wide spectrum of digital fabrication techniques—including CNC milling, robotics, 3D scanning, and Augmented Reality-assisted assembly. Working in interdisciplinary teams, they applied a full CAD-CAM workflow, from parametric design to physical construction, culminating in the creation of the 5.5 x 3 x 3 m modular pavilion -designed for disassembly and reassembly by next year's cohort. The course was co-led by Kai Strehlke from Blumer Lehmann and myself, with fantastic support from our dedicated instructors: Denis Maillard, Eduard Bachmann, Urs Bruderer, Quim Escoda Llorens, Maria Smigielska, and Olivier Barth. We’d also like to thank our fabrication partners: production was carried out partially at BFH at our #HOMAG CNC machine (plates), and at #PierreBühler AG on their 5-axis #Krüsi machine (beams). This hands-on course is part of the Integrales Digitales Bauen minor—a three-module interdisciplinary track aimed at equipping students with essential digital tools and insights to meet the changing demands of the construction industry. Students not only work with advanced tools and techniques, but also visit leading companies such as Herzog & de Meuron and Pierre Bühler AG, where they experience first-hand how digital processes are implemented in real-world projects.
