Each winter, when Matariki mā Puanga rises above Aotearoa New Zealand, we take time to reflect, reconnect and look ahead to the future. While Matariki and Puanga are unique to Aotearoa New Zealand, the stars themselves connect us with communities around the world. Known as Subaru in Japan, Makaliʻi in Hawaiʻi, Mataliʻi across parts of the Pacific, and the Pleiades or Seven Sisters elsewhere, this same star cluster has inspired people across cultures for generations. These shared connections reflect the spirit of international education. Every learner who chooses Aotearoa New Zealand brings their own culture, language and perspective, enriching our communities and helping to build understanding across borders.
