"π§π΅π² π’π³π³πΆππͺπ’ππ" by Edsel Nurvito Ink on paper Illustration series (9 sketches) 2026 β’ This body of work emerged from my growing unease with Indonesia's recent socio-political landscape, where power and bureaucracy increasingly resemble a dark joke; absurd, satirical, and unsettling at the same time. Through nine achromatic sketches, I explore the collision between structural aesthetics and the visual language of authority. The exaggerated silhouettes, oversized garments, and extreme shoulder constructions are not merely formal experiments, but metaphors for the inflation of power, ego, and institutional arrogance. As these forms expand beyond proportion, they embody systems of authority that grow increasingly detached from the human values they claim to protect. One of the key pieces presents a voluminous ballgown adorned with a military camouflage pattern. This deliberate contradiction functions as an ironic gesture, reflecting the subtle normalization of militarism and repression within civilian life. Cloaked in the spectacle of ceremony, elegance, and elitism, these structures of power become more difficult to recognize, even as their presence grows increasingly pervasive. Borrowing the visual vocabulary of high fashion, this series transforms garments into political symbols. Beneath their theatrical elegance lies an attempt to dismantle the polished faΓ§ade of authority, exposing the contradictions, anxieties, and performative nature of power itself. #art #illustration #fashion #fashionillustration #arts #artwork #concept #conceptual
