*** 58th EDPS-DPO meeting *** The 58th EDPS-DPO meeting starts now! Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiorowski opened the meeting, hosted by the six DPOs of the Commission's Executive Agencies, with a wide-ranging address on DPO independence, enforcement, and the challenges ahead. He recalled two cases in which DPOs of EU bodies were dismissed before the end of their term without the prior consent of the EDPS, as required by law. Following these cases, the EDPS issued Supervisory Guidance on the role of DPOs and adopted a decision establishing clear and binding procedures related to the EUDPR requirements of EDPS's prior consent. "If a DPO can be removed for doing the job, then no DPO can do the job," he underlined, reaffirming the EDPS's commitment to defending DPO independence wherever it is threatened. On complaints, the Supervisor highlighted structural growth: 133 admissible complaints received in 2025, a 23% increase year-on-year. He also flagged the rising impact of generative AI, which is directing thousands of complaints to the wrong authority and producing submissions of unprecedented length and complexity. #EUDPR #dataprotection #DPO
