***European Health Data Space Workshop – Opening remarks*** Today, EDPS Secretary General Leonardo Cervera-Navas took the floor in the Workshop “From Patient Needs to Action: Data Quality, Trust, and the European Health Data Space.” In his speech, he set the political and regulatory context, highlighting the importance of trust, governance, and data protection in the rollout of the European Health Data Space. In his opening remarks, the Secretary General reminded that “The European Health Data Space, which addresses a previously fragmented digital health system by allowing for sharing health data across the European Union while empowering patients is vital. The use of single secure and trustworthy infrastructure that adheres to strict GDPR standards, allows patients to consolidate all of their information in one space and improves their continuity of care.” He added: “The governance of EHDS is not easy, as the regulation stands at the intersection of GDPR, EUDPR, and Member States’s law, creating a comprehensive legal framework for data privacy with a significant number of stakeholders. As EDPS, we are here to support EHDS Board in protecting data privacy and ensuring that it aligns with data protection standards”. “I hope you will contribute to the discussion today and take it beyond the walls of this workshop to advocate for transparency, trust, and good governance in the healthcare spaces“ concluded the Secretary General. #EHDS #HealthData #GDPR
