*** BLOGPOST - 58th EDPS-DPO Network Meeting *** The 58th meeting of the EDPS-DPO network took place today in Brussels, bringing together DPOs from across the EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies at a time of significant regulatory and technological change. Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiorowski opened the meeting by reaffirming the importance of DPO independence and looking ahead to upcoming legislative developments, welcoming simplification efforts while warning against reforms that could weaken fundamental rights. Thomas Zerdick, Head of the Supervision and Enforcement Unit, presented a new follow-up tracker to ensure continuity between meetings, alongside updates on complaint-handling, international transfers and data protection impact assessments. Luis Velasco, Head of the Technology and Privacy Unit, announced that updated guidance on AI risk management would be published this summer and drew attention to the growing threat of cyberattacks targeting EU institutions. A hands-on workshop gave participants the opportunity to test a draft common DPIA template based on the European Data Protection Board model, while afternoon sessions addressed the lessons learned from the 2024 European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) data breach, recent case law developments and the latest results from the EDPS Website Compliance Awareness Campaign (WCAC). "The Brussels meeting showed me once again the value of bringing the DPO community together in a dynamic network around concrete challenges and shared priorities. At a time when both the technological and regulatory environments are evolving quickly, practical and face-to-face exchanges of this kind remain essential to supporting compliance and strengthening data protection across the EU administration", said Leonardo Cervera-Navas, EDPS Secretary General, in his concluding remarks.
