Our Chair Laurence has authored a paper (preprint) in collaboration with other neurodivergent researchers and clinicians from Australia and the United Kingdom highlighting some of the systemic shortcomings of CBT, particularly in relation to epistemic injustice, iatrogenic harm, and neuronormativity. We explain how some aspects of CBT practice can cause harm to neurodivergent people, even though it is rarely, if ever, acknowledged or addressed in the academic literature. We also propose affirming alternative frameworks focused on felt safety and collaborative care. The paper, titled Epistemic Justice, Safety, and Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice: A Lived Experience-Led Response to Wade and Waller (2025) is freely available online: https://lnkd.in/g4zquGMT #mentalhealth #CBT #iatrogenicharm #epistemicjustice #disabilityrights #humanrights #neurodiversity #health #healthcare #wellbeing #nothingaboutuswithoutus #autism #adhd #psychology
