IF FUTURE VEHICLES SHARE THE SAME ARCHITECTURE, WHAT CREATES IDENTITY? // As EV platforms, aerodynamic requirements and software-defined architectures become increasingly standardized, automotive design faces a new challenge: How do you create a recognizable identity when the technical foundations are converging? That question shaped our latest in-house urban mobility design study. Instead of adding visual features on top, the concept explores how core design elements such as lighting graphics, surfaces, proportions and wheel design can work together to create a stronger visual character from every perspective. Especially in urban environments, recognizability matters more than many assume. Vehicles are becoming smarter and more connected, but also increasingly similar in architecture. Distinctive design is no longer just styling. It becomes orientation, interaction and brand identity at first glance. One interesting shift: Details that were once secondary are starting to define perception more strongly than ever before. Lighting signatures are a good example. Not because they are new, but because they increasingly carry the responsibility of differentiation. The sketches were developed as part of an internal EDAG design exploration led by Senior Exterior Designer Enrique Domínguez Mormeneo at EDAG Spain. What design element will define the identity of future vehicles most strongly?
