FROM BATTERY RECYCLING TO INDUSTRIAL SCALE // How do we turn battery recycling into an industrial business? That question was at the heart of the 4th World Recycling Convention in Basel. More than 150 experts from industry, research and policymaking came together to discuss how recycling can become more efficient, scalable and circular. One of them was Dr. Josef E. (Ecker), Head of Battery Recycling at EDAG Group. In his presentation, "Unlocking the Industrial Potential of Battery Recycling: From Technologies to Scalable Solutions," he addressed a challenge that goes far beyond recycling technology itself. Industrial scaling requires more than high recovery rates. It demands automated processes. Safe operations. Flexible production systems that can handle future battery generations. And business cases that work in the real world. Instead of optimizing individual process steps, Josef Ecker highlighted the importance of connecting the entire value chain. From vehicle dismantling and battery disassembly to direct recycling, second-life applications and the return of recovered materials into production. Because only connected processes can be scaled.
