𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: 𝐀 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝. The European Commission has withdrawn its detailed opinion on the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭 (𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐃𝐆). The opinion had temporarily extended the standstill period under the EU notification procedure until 17 August 2026. With the objection now withdrawn, Germany can continue the legislative process. The VerpackDG may therefore 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 12 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2026, provided that the remaining national legislative steps are completed in time. For businesses selling in Germany, this brings 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲. But the broader message is just as important: The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔 from 12 August 2026. The new requirements are not limited to the German market.
