London is expected to reach 37°C this week, just think about that for a moment. Most offices would be taking measures to keep employees comfortable with air conditioning and flexible working policies. Yet thousands of children across the UK will spend the week sitting in classrooms that were never designed for temperatures like these, such as classrooms with poor ventilation and little access to outdoor learning spaces. As a company, that's something we find incredibly difficult to ignore. We talk a lot about preparing the next generation for the future and giving children the skills they need to succeed. But, how can we expect children to perform at their best when they're struggling just to stay comfortable? Research has consistently shown that excessive classroom temperatures can negatively impact concentration, memory and learning outcomes. Yet many of our school buildings were designed for a climate that no longer exists. What's even more concerning is that this isn't a temporary problem. In an analysis, Save the Children found that from July 2023 to June 2024, 766 million children, which amounts to one third of the global child population, were exposed to extreme heatwaves. The reality is that climate change is something that the younger generations are dealing with right now. That's why we believe greener school and more resilient infrastructure need to become a national priority. If we genuinely want the next generation to solve the challenges of tomorrow, the least we can do is provide environments that help them learn, grow and succeed. #ClimateChange #SustainableInfrastructure #GreenBuilding #EducationMatters #FutureGenerations
