Forty years ago today, the world witnessed history’s worst ever nuclear disaster at Chornobyl. As Ukraine marks this solemn anniversary, the site’s safety and security remain our shared international responsibility. “The EBRD, as ever, stands with Ukraine and is working with the international community to help secure the site after Russia’s reckless drone attack last year put its safety at risk once again,” said EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso. The EBRD’s work in Chornobyl is currently supported by the European Commission, French Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministère des Affaires étrangères français, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Direktoratet for strålevern og atomsikkerhet (DSA), Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium and Ministero dell'economia e delle finanze.   W/ Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, SSE "Chornobyl NPP".
