One year ago, a Russian drone strike damaged Chornobyl’s New Safe Confinement, the landmark structure built with the support of 45 international donors to protect the world from the legacy of the 1986 disaster.   Repairing the New Safe Confinement is now a top priority for the EBRD-managed International Chornobyl Cooperation Account and our partners. It is essential to restore it long term and prevent the further deterioration of a structure designed to confine radioactive material. We’d like to thank European Commission, Ministère des Affaires étrangères français, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium, Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Ministero dell'economia e delle finanze, Direktoratet for strålevern og atomsikkerhet (DSA) FCDO Services, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, TaiwanBusiness-EBRD TC Fund or their generous contributions in the past and ask the international community to help us make Chornobyl safe again. w/ Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Learn more: ebrd.com/chornobyl
