At least €500 million is needed to repair the New Safe Confinement in Chornobyl. The EBRD is already mobilising international resources. In our recent EBRD in Ukraine newsletter, we look at the current state of the Chornobyl New Safe Confinement and the plans for its restoration. We explain what underpins the repair estimate and why the work must be completed before 2030. You’ll also find insights on how the EBRD is coordinating the international response, and why restoring the NSC’s full functionality is now one of Europe’s most critical nuclear‑safety challenges. The EBRD’s work in Chornobyl is currently supported by the European Commission, France, Ministry of Economy, Ministère des Affaires étrangères français, Norway, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Direktoratet for strålevern og atomsikkerhet (DSA), UK, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, Germany, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium and Italy, Ministero dell'economia e delle finanze. We are grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the SSE "Chornobyl NPP". #Chornobyl40
