It was all hands on deck today for #foodrescue! Sodexo reached out with extra pallets of drinks, snacks, bread & food from their cafeteria that’s been closed due to COVID-19. Urbandale Community Action Network’s awesome volunteer picked up the product and delivered it to be distributed to our partners. At the same time Taste to Go Catering had extra been pork, potatoes, corn & bagged lunches that they have been serving to MidAmerican Energy Company and the over 600 linemen working to restore power to central Iowa after the derecho. The food was distributed to various religious organizations and a team from Mercy to deliver to homeless camps. PLUS we had freshly gleaned pears from Des Moines Public School's FFA tree that got knocked over during the storm! Food insecurity has always been a problem, but in times of crisis and natural disaster our neighbors that are already struggling suffer even more. It’s so incredible to see the community come together to make sure good food isn’t wasted and gets to people who need it. ❤️
